Topic: Species Study #1: Hydromolds

Hello to everyone who reads this. This is Fennick, a new member of the C.G.M.D.’s genetics district. I have been brought here from the planet Macrid in the Conh system in order to study any and all species VexTech comes across. I will be starting with the creatures that are native to Venyx and slowly move to those who work within the complex. With their permission of course.

Anyway, my first study will be on Hydromolds or Slimes as people more commonly call them. From what I’ve heard, Sylva was actually made from these, but that will be for a future study.

Hydromolds are gelatinous creatures that are made up of nearly entirely water, and a bit of either protein or plant fiber depending on their environment. Protein Hydromolds are nuetral and found just about anywhere that gets has enough water and sufficient protein food source. While Plant Hydromolds are slightly acidic and seem to only live only in swamps where only plants are able to thrive. Though they are made mostly of water, it is almost like water is completely solid to them, but yet they are still able to absorb it.

When the two different types get close to each other they get quite hostile and try to kill one another by shattering the core found floating round in their gel. While watching them fight I’ve noticed that Plant Hydromolds are able to harden themselves and will attempt to crush it’s target, while the Protein Hydromolds can release condensed tendrils that they can use to pierce it’s target. When a Hydromold dies it’s gel instantly liquifies, leaving a puddle of water and the shattered core on the ground. From inspecting the puddles left by both I’ve discovered that While the Plant Hydromolds are highly poisonous, the Protein Hydromolds are extremely nutritious and can be classified as a super food.

From observing them peacefully, I’ve discovered that Plant Hydromolds are asexual and will release a core into a pond. This only seems to happen when the parent has eaten enough to create a core without breaking apart it’s own. Once the parent has released the core, it will guard it until it forms it’s own gel and then leaves the child to fend for itself. For the Protein Hydromolds, they appear to have male and female forms and actually shows signs of affection to one another. The females will stay in a nest and will wait for the male to go out and gather protein in order to inject it into the female so that it can create a core and then spit into two. Out of the two, one will always be female, but the other seems to be a random gender every time. After the mother splits, the two halves will stay with the father until they grow back to they’re base size. After they’re done growing a female will stay with the father while the other half will go out into the wild to find a mate. I’m assuming the one that stays, is the original mother. From observing the two gender act on their own, I can conclude the only males are able to reshape and condense their gel, while the females are the only ones able to create cores and split. This means that females will try to run and hide from predators, while the males will stay and fight for both self defense and to collect protein.

That is about everything I have discovered so far. If any of you were to learn anything new, please contact me so I can update my data.
